SeaLife Center

A friend of Grandma's wrote and asked her if we were stuck on a glacier! That's a pretty good hint that I forgot to wrap up our trip to Alaska, huh?

At the last minute we decided to stop at the much acclaimed SeaLife Center. Oh the charms within! What an incredible aquarium experience. It's actually a research center and was created after the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989. They have a promise to rehabilitate any wounded marine animal for the rest of time. Pretty amazing commitment. We saw the tanks holding these precious animals from about 5 feet away and the marine aviary had puffins flying right past our faces. This alone was worth the trek to Seward.

Little Man was fascinated with the Valdez audio station. Each animal on a huge poster had a corresponding number to the hand-held audio phone. The recording would give an update on the animal, including facts like how many died or suffered due to the spill. He kept announcing how many animals had been killed and how many babies have been born since. He became an expert on the circle of life for marine animals, believe me.

After loading up at Starbucks, we had to drive back to Anchorage for our flight home and that, unfortunately, was that!
