Where we're heading next:

Home Sweet Home

Quote of the Day

Peanut, "Wow, mom, now we can say we've been to all 50 states! What are we gonna do next?"

Illinois – State #18

Argh. We weren’t properly welcomed! Can you believe the Welcome to Illinois sign is nowhere to be found? I’ll have to figure something out.

An afternoon in one of my favorite cities is priceless. Top it off that we're staying in a very swank hotel. This is certainly not the norm! Whoever said this place was a kid-friendly hotel was out of their mind!

Can you say pizza? We met the nicest couple at dinner (from Champagne, IL) and they patiently listened to all the details of our trip. Peanut and Little Man just get on a roll with perfect strangers! Their enthusiasm is infectious.

Can you say Art? Architecture? I taught the kids that nearly everywhere you turn in Chicago, there’s a cool building poking out from behind saying peek-a-boo. So they started looking around and recognizing all the incredible buildings this city has to offer. Now, there's the Millenium Park, too!

  1. I've only been to Chicago one time (when Emily was in grad school at the U of Chic.) and I absolutely LOVED it! I loved that it was broken into various neighborhoods, quite like Seattle and that each neighborhood had it's own feel. I loved that it seemed to be all about art and design. We waited in this huge line somewhere on the magnificent mile to get popcorn. Emily didn't know anything about this popcorn, but we had to get some just because it seemed it was obviously worth waiting for. We got a blend of cheesey and caramely . It was delish! The kind of delish that makes you feel a bit sick afterwards. Do you know anything about this popcorn?

I also loved the thrift shops in Andersonville and the beauty of Evanston. We saw the Frank Lloyd Wright house (Robie House) and toured the grounds at the University of Chicago - breathtaking! We ate at a super fun Moroccan restaurant with belly dancing and a Central American restaurant with yucca root boiled with garlic that was soooo yummy. I still think of that. oh, yeah, the art institute - couldn't leave that out. Did you take the kids to the aquarium?

Hope to visit there again. Thanks for letting me stroll down memory lane.
