Where we're heading next:
Home Sweet Home

Oklahoma - State #22
You can see that Doodle continues to struggle with obeying traffic laws. I've said it all along that she's a reincarnation of her mother!
Sorry, Okees but we didn’t do much in Oklahoma. We really wanted to see the Botanical Gardens in Oklahoma City, but the drive would have taken us too far off course. So we went to Tulsa, but kind of passed by without noticing it. Luckily, we ended up in Dewey, OK, a tidy little historic town in the middle of nowhere!
This became our cowboy state. Only Grandma knew who Tom Mix was, but here was an entire museum dedicated to him. The kids walked in to the offer of a balloon, a fun kitchy gift-shop (there was even a pink cowgirl holster set that I wouldn’t let Doodle get), and, My Pal the King, a Tom Mix “talkie” movie. It worked for an hour stop.
I'm tired and I need a rest. This morning I started out with a headache and mentioned to Grandma in jest that I’d drive 30 miles out of our way for a Starbucks. Would you believe we found one just a few miles from the museum? What a cruel joke! They don’t open for another couple of days. Still, the employees were friendly as hell, opening the window to talk shop, and offered to “practice “ on us. We each got a great drink and fun conversation…for free!
Thanks, Okee baristas, for saving the day!
Check this out. We got stuck behind an accident and waiting patiently in our lane (a car was on fire up ahead and it was getting sprayed), we began to witness one car after another (about 15 in all) make a mass exodus across the median to the other side of the freeway. U-turns in the middle of a freeway! Then, some big trucks actually started going backwards down the on-ramp. Seriously! This was a HUGE on-ramp. We just couldn’t believe our eyes! Is it possible that this is a legal move in Oklahoma?
Also, I had to drive all over the place to find some dirt. I know that sounds ridiculous, but Cherokee Nation = grass and more grass. I made a few disappointing stops, only to find hay or dirt-colored concrete! Finally, we found a tiny spot and I dug it out with a rock. This is only the 2nd state with boring brown dirt (Nevada was the first). Hmph.
