Where we're heading next:

Home Sweet Home

Quote of the Day

Peanut, "Wow, mom, now we can say we've been to all 50 states! What are we gonna do next?"

Iowa – State #19

Dubuque is so pretty, and much larger than I'd imagined! Lush rolling hills and beautiful red brick buildings. At every turn Doodle would shout, “Look, another beautiful church!” Sure enough, Dubuque rivals Anchorage for churches per capita, but these are much more pleasing to the eye.

We met a perfect Farmer man, too. Never smiling once, he stood erect and told us he was here for a tractor convention. There was something so kind in his eyes, but I could tell he’d worked harder in his life than anyone I knew.

Remember our posh hotel in Chicago? I think it ruined the kids because when we arrived at our very low budget Iowa hotel, the kids turned their noses up a bit. Peanut with her newly developed 8-year old maturity said, “Well, this hotel would be very fancy for Laura and Mary!”

When we left Dubuque, heading south to Missouri, Doodle shouted, “Hey! Look at all that green water!” We looked around and finally realized she was talking about the crops! It was endless "sea of green", mostly corn. Well, green water is the only thing we saw for the next 5 hours.
